Invitación Exposición Nicolás Van Hemelryck / Premio Colombo Suizo de Fotografía

Tras más de diez años de abandono, se abre una ventana al Hospital San Juan de Dios.

Quiero invitarlos a la exposición de fotografía 'San Juan Sin Dios', ganadora del Premio Colombo Suizo de Fotografía, del Ministerio de Cultura y la Embajada Suiza.

Biblioteca Pública Julio Mario Santo Domingo (adjunto invitación).

La exposición estará abierta hasta el 10 de enero (2012). Allá se estará obsequiando el libro del proyecto.

Agradezco le reenvíen esta invitación a todos los que puedan estar interesados.

Jama Masjid (mezquita). Ese día se celebró en la India Eid ul-Fitr, el namaz (misa) que celebra el fin del ramadán (ramzan): un mes sagrado de ayuno para los musulmanes. Coincidencialmente cayó el mismo dia que el aniversario de las torres gemelas, pero lo recordé por la noche al ver las noticias, acá no se sintió nada más que espiritualidad y hermandad. leer completo

Raushan Chiragh-i-Dihli

Raushan Chiragh-i-Dihli, originally uploaded by nicolas van hemelryck.

It is the burial place and tomb of Sufi saint Nasir-ud-Din Mahmud. Entitled Raushan Chiragh-i-Dihli, which means the 'Illuminated lamp of Delhi', the saint died in the year 1356. He was a disciple of Hazrat Nizamuddin, whom he succeeded as the head of the Chisti sect. The village of Chirag Delhi, now an urban settlement gradually grew up around this sacred tomb and was earlier enclosed within rubble-built rectangular walls with gateways on each side, built by Muhammad Bin Tughlaq (1325-51).

'snarled megalopolis' in platform, california

Ayer recibí una buena noticia. Muy buena. En octubre no voy a abrir una expo. Voy a abrir dos:

Your work will be shown in the PLATFORM* gallery from October 7 to December 17 and will also be featured as part of the permanent online archive located at: http://www.ihc.ucsb.edu/platform/

If you will be in the Santa Barbara area on Tuesday, October 19, please join us for the opening of the show from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on the 6th floor of the Humanities and Social Sciences building at UCSB.

El texto que acompaña la imagen:

‘The first night we cleaned some beds in the tuberculosis ward and slept there. I thought: ‘it just for a couple of nights, while the government settles our situation.’ It’s been ten years. Now I live in the Mental Health Pavilion. The Hospital is falling down to ruins. So is my life.’
Edelmira told me this the first day I met her. It’s the story of over seventy families that lost their homes for lack of payment during their last months of service. They were forced to remake their homes in the Hospital, just ten blocks away from Plaza de Bolívar.
